5 Road Trip Tech Essentials

The long awaited Aussie Summer has finally arrived and we all know what this means; road trips to far away parklands, picnics in high places, and lazy afternoons on secluded beaches.

It's definitely road trip season here at PSS. Rindala and I will be sharing our most recent weekend road trip to Broke Fordwich right by the Hunter Valley, and with Viola's recent trip to the Coffs Coast riding in an Audi we're super inspired to be hitting the road more this summer! Whether you're taking that journey to faraway beaches with your kids, going on a date, or just hanging out with university mates, you'll want to consider bringing along more than just a picnic basket and esky to get you there. But first, here's a little insight into what I just can't hit the road without! So to make sure your trip is that little bit more connected, here is my list of five techy road travel essentials.

1. GPS

To avoid getting lost, a GPS is a must have. Although most phones have some sort of Map service, in my opinion the satellite services GPS devices provide cannot be replaced. If you want to get to your destination quicker without the fuss of phone call interruptions, purchase a GPS with Live Services to avoid sitting in messy traffic situations.

2. Bluetooth

Getting to your destination safely should be your number 1 priority. Ensure some sort of hands-free bluetooth device is installed in your car prior to departure. You can have them fitted to your existing car audio system or simply buy a portable device such as the BlueAnt Bluetooth Hands-Free Speakerphones. Genius!

3. AUX Cable

A road trip is just a boring drive without a tailored music playlist. A simple must have for every centre console. Connect your phone or iPod to your car audio system via an AUX cable.

4. Cigarette Lighter USB

Most electronics these days charge via USB. Ensure none of your devices run out of battery by having a USB charger that inserts into your cigarette lighter.

5. Tablet/iPad

If you're hoping to travel light, but still need to be connected and entertained, keep yourself in check with movies, games and books on a tablet. Most parents I know are armed with these bad boys for lengthy drives, and a duck out to the shops. Just be certain you're pre loaded and charged before hitting the road! I know I cannot travel without my iPad- it's basically my 2nd passport.
